Eastergate Village Hall was the venue for an emotional exhibition last night in memory of the locals who lost their lives during WW1.

The evening was filled with poetry and readings, separated by live music

‘Our local lads’ was a combination of poetry, letters and music compiled by Jean Rogers.

Based around a series of letters passed around during the Great War, Jean thought it would be a fitting tribute.

She said: “I want to tell the story of some of those names. I want to lift them out, even if we just weave something together. It’s all about being local, the history around us.”

With a number of moving recitals from members of the community, the evening was filled with readings and music, with a powerful performance of ‘the green fields of France’ originally by Dropkick Murphys.
