Home again: Britain’s largest warship docks in Portsmouth
Britain’s largest aircraft carrier has returned to her home in Portsmouth after four months at sea.
HMS Queen Elizabeth sailed into her home port after months of flight trials in the United States.
Many people welcomed home the largest warship ever built by the Royal Navy. Some of those had come from across the region and, in some cases, the country.
Peter Foster, a motor retailer, from Fareham, said: ‘The occasion is quite an important thing as it brings people into the city which is important to the city’s economy.’
Ken Morl said: ‘I came specifically here to see the aircraft carrier. Up to now I have only seen it on television. I used to work in shipyards so it is interesting to see it in real life. It is a good thing for Portsmouth as there is a lot more money to spend.’
