Pompey’s next challenge takes shape in the form of a visit from Fleetwood Town.

A seaside town not too far from Blackpool, the club has gone under a few names in its history including Fleetwood Rangers, Fleetwood Wanderers and Fleetwood Freeport.

Although not famous for high flying football, the club have made headlines over the years most notably for featuring Premier League talent Jamie Vardy.

Vardy was a regular starter for the Cod Army and it was his bridge between playing non-league for Halifax FC and ultimately being a Premier League title winner at Leicester City.

Now with a new manager in the dugout in Joey Barton, fans across the board have questioned the appointment of the 35-year-old due to his lack of managerial experience.

But the former Manchester City man hasn’t crumbled under the pressure with his side sitting in a very respectable 8th position.

Fleetwood visit Fratton with back-to-back league victories behind them. However Pompey’s recent record against Fleetwood is largely positive.

The 4–1 victory at Fratton Park was a highlight for many fans last season due to Brett Pitman’s stunning curled effort from outside the box as the last goal of the game.

The Blues also grabbed a 2–1 victory at Highbury Stadium last season.

By winning both the home and away encounters last season, Pompey have every right to be confident and attack from minute one, something the Blues have struggled with at home in recent weeks.

Disappointing displays against Wycombe and Gillingham is in complete contrast to Pompey’s consistent away record.

This recent run of negative home form should only act as motivation to improve by winning on Saturday to keep that lead at the top.
