Moneyfields FC have broken a club record for most games without a defeat after a long spell of impressive form.

The Copnor side have gone unbeaten for 17 matches in a row, with the latest being an emphatic 5–1 victory over Paulton Rovers.

The previous record was set last year, when The Moneys went 16 games without defeat.

Moneyfields were also presented with the Club of the Month award, by the Southern League, after winning four out of four games in November.

The club, based at Moneyfields Avenue, are currently third in the league but have games in hand on the leaders after a series of postponed matches in December.

Dave Carter, the manager, said: “The boys have got some great camaraderie.

“They work well together, the team spirit is fantastic.

“It just gets better and better.”

The performance against Paulton Rovers showed just what The Moneys can do when they are on form.

The scoring started early when Briggs finished into the top corner in the 13th minute.

Rob Evans, who had a good game, set up the clinical Steve Hutchings in the 35th minute to double the lead.

Paulton Rovers showed some fighting spirit before half time as they scored a header in the 43rd minute.

Daniel Wooden restored the two goal lead in the 55th minute with a point blank header.

Conor Bailey, who has made over 350 appearances for the club, scored his second free kick in two matches in the 65th minute, putting the match far beyond Paulton’s reach.

Debutant, Harry Potter, displayed a final piece of magic just five minutes after coming on, when he got his maiden goal in the 85th minute.

Moneyfields will no doubt be aiming to extend this unbeaten run, as they face AFC Totton at home on Saturday 12 January.
