Moneyfields were defeated 1–0 at home to Larkhall AFC this weekend, the last match before their playoff semi-final against Yate Town on Wednesday.

Moneyfields’ starting lineup

The Moneys started the game well and dominated the first half.

In the fourth minute, Steve Hutchings latched onto Conor Bailey’s ball, but headed straight at the goalkeeper.

Just three minutes later, Moneyfields had another chance to open the scoring as Lloyd Rowlatt’s shot beat the goalkeeper but was cleared off the line by a defender.

In the 38th minute, Joe Briggs struck a great shot from the edge of the box, but Larkhall’s goalkeeper, Shaun Semmens, made an equally good stop.

The Yellows were reduced to 10 men in the 51st minute as star striker Steve Hutchings was dismissed for an incident off of the ball.

Things got worse for Dave Carter’s side as Larkhall scored the only goal of the game, directly from a corner in the 79th minute.

Sam Pearce had an opportunity to level the score when a penalty was awarded after 89 minutes of play.

However, Larkhall’s goalkeeper had other ideas and produced a smart stop to protect his clean sheet.

The Moneys finished the season in fourth place, which means they will face Yate Town away from home on Wednesday May 1.

Moneyfields manager Dave Carter “fancies their chances” against Yate Town.

He said: “If you had asked me before the game who I’d want to play, I would have said Yate.

“The playoff semi-final is a lottery game but both teams, us and them, are not on the greatest form at the moment.

“They have a half-decent pitch up and I’m sure there will be a big crowd to play to on Wednesday night.”
