Mason Mount during loan spell at Derby

Four years ago, Mason Mount was having a kick around with his mates in Purbrook Park. This week, he was in contention to play for his country against a world cup winning squad.

Mason Mount, the Portsmouth-born, 19-year-old, attended Purbrook Park Secondary School, before securing a four-year contract to Premier League giants, Chelsea on his 17th birthday.

Mount’s form during his loan spell at Derby put him onto Gareth Southgate’s radar.

Mount was an unused substitute against Croatia and Spain, but what could he have offered?

During his loan spells at Vitesse and Derby, he has demonstrated his technical ability and attacking prowess. Playing mainly as a centre attacking midfielder, Mount has made his speciality in set piece delivery well known. His pin-point accuracy makes him a constant threat from dead ball situations.

Derby manager Frank Lampard holds Mason in very high regard saying: ‘Every challenge Mason Mount has been given, he has passed with flying colours’. He doesn’t think training or the players around him will faze him at all because he is ‘too good’ for that.
