WATCH: Hundreds gather to see HMS Queen Elizabeth return to Portsmouth
HMS Queen Elizabeth arrived back into Portsmouth following four months in America.
Hundreds of spectators gathered on Portsmouth’s sea front to see the £3.1 billion aircraft carrier docking into the navy base, with some travelling from all over the country.
One spectator, Sean Walker, said: ‘I am from Bournemouth but wanted to come here and see the spectacular ship.
‘It’s great to see everyone here and the turnout is great.’
Britain’s largest warship arrived into the Solent around 2pm, with spectators watching in Gunwharf Quays, Hotwalls, Square Tower and the Round Tower.
When asked what is means for Portsmouth and Britain, Angela Tilby, said: ‘I think it represents our defence against aggression.
‘From what I have seen or heard, it’s state of the art and let’s hope it isn’t used for aggression.’
Many friends and family of Navy comrades welcomed them as HMS Queen Elizabeth docked into Portsmouth harbour.
Now the Royal Navy warship has arrived back in Portsmouth, she is set to undergo work to ensure she has the equipment and improvements she needs.
The 65,000 tonne vessel has been carrying out trials of F-35 fighter jets, and is set to enter active service in 2021.
