BSU wins DOST-CAR’s CordiNNOVATION Week Competitions

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Benguet State University (BSU) won first place in the Reverse Pitching and Hackathon competitions during Innovation Week, held by the Department of Science and Technology — Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR), on April 25 in Baguio City.

Partnered with the local government unit of Lubuagan, BSU pitched their winning research proposal “Bean-To-Bite: Developing Legume-Based Noodles And Meat Alternatives For Kalinga’s Sustainable Enterprise.”

The Reverse Pitching and Hackathon event was a three-day program where participants had to devise innovative solutions to the community problems.

The University of the Philippines Baguio — Social Innovation Laboratory and Business Inclusion (UPB SILBI) also provided key strategies to participants for presenting research proposals on April 24 at the University of Cordilleras (UC).

“The research proposals aim to address identified issues on agriculture, food processing, water management, waste management, LGU processes and operations, among others. These are crafted by the delegates from LGUs and academe in CAR,” DOST-CAR said in their Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Ifugao State University won second place with its research proposal “Mapping Agricultural Products Harvesting Optimized Development.” Apayao State College followed in third place, with its research proposal “Development Of Smart Waste Monitoring System For LGU Santa Marcela.”

Special awards that focused on renewable energy were also given to participants by the Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST).

DOST-CAR’s Innovation Week event, now in its second year, had the theme “Fostering Sustainable & Diverse CordiNNOVATION.” The event featured various talks and exhibits focusing on advancing science and technology in CAR.
