BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — A total of 112 residents were displaced after a fire broke out at Barangay MRR — Queen of Peace on Saturday morning, April 13, based on the report of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) Baguio City.

The Baguio City Public Information Office (PIO) reported on Facebook that the fire damaged seven houses, affecting 23 families, 19 working individuals, 28 students, and a senior citizen living alone.

One of the fire victims, Ronald Ramos Jr., said in an interview that they are seeking a place to live, financial and relief aids after the incident.

“Wala po talaga kami nasalbang gamit namin because we rushed po umalis for our safety na rin po,” he said.

Ramos Jr. added they are still seeking justice from the Bureau of Fire Protection — Cordillera Administrative Region (BFP-CAR) Baguio.

“So disappointing talaga sa part ng BFP. Late na rin nakapunta mga other fire trucks, I don’t know why kasi malapit ang fire department sa amin nasa tabi lang ng city hall at mayroon din sa Legarda,” he claimed.

However, BFP-CAR Baguio said that after receiving a call at 5:29 a.m., they responded immediately.

Brgy. Captain Raul Caronongan said in an interview that the fire started from the No. 11 house.

Fire was declared “out” at 8 a.m.

Each family will receive P10,000 from DSWD-CAR and P20,000 from the city government.

BFP-CAR Baguio is still investigating the cause of the fire as of April 14.
