Can an app be as good as this marker?
(This is a job post.)

Make a Marker

Highly is a highlighter for the web.

It’s a simple way to take ownership of the important, inspiring, laughaloud and otherwise standout ideas we find as we read. Highlights are naturally personal and bite-sized, so they’re a killer way to share, too.

Everybody reads, every day. Mostly on phones. When we make reading a little better — a little more social, a little more efficient — we make a big difference in the way stories spread and people connect. It’s a worthy goal and a meaty challenge.

“A highlighter for the web” has to work everywhere people read, and it has to be 10× better than the competing solution — copy & paste. The former is a hard technology problem, the latter is a hard user experience problem, and both must be tackled gung-ho. This is where you come in.

Highly Inc. is hiring.

Everything You Do Here Matters

Own your work.

Today, we are a team of four. It’s clear that a small, focused team can build world-class products, and that’s our intent. Everyone on the team is creative, analytical and kind. Everyone hustles. Our values, indelicately:

Get shit done.

Prioritize and produce. It’s important that everything we work on is important. On a tiny team, there is really nobody else who can do your job for you; embrace this feeling. Know when to plus and when to edit. Note: long-run speed comes from communication and trust.

Give a shit.

Hold your work and your teammates’ to ever-ratcheting standards. Be opinionated — hold strong views weakly. Be self-aware — know how strongly you feel. Be good to everyone, including yourself.

Midwest waves. West Coast waves.

Flow

Own your workday.

Highly Inc. has well-lit offices in Madison, Wisconsin and San Francisco, California. Workdays are unstructured, but we’re generally “in the office” together during the day.

Builders and Backers

Own a piece of the company.

Add your photo.
  1. Andrew, designer — highlights, tweets, stories, photos.
  2. Eric, engineer — highlights, tweets, photos.
  3. Shafique, engineer — highlights.
  4. Johnny, engineer — highlights, tweets, stories.

This team is backed by a small group of investors — including Ev Williams, Bloomberg Beta and Resolute Ventures — who’ve worked on Medium, Twitter, Facebook, Wordpress, Pinterest, Coinbase and major media brands. This is helpful.

Now Hiring

Own your career.

Platform Engineer (Full Stack)

Own application development for the Highly platform.
$70–130K salary. ½–3% equity.
In San Francisco or Madison, Wisconsin.
Say Hi
