A Better Donation Experience for the Web
Tuesdays in November have never been more important. Election Tuesday revealed stark, challenging differences between Americans. This week’s Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to come together with empathy and understanding to make a positive difference in our communities.
As a designer, I frequently think about empathy and community. Inclusive and accessible design is critical to great software, but the experience of donating online has historically suffered from poor user experience. While HandUp, GoFundMe and others are changing the way we support people in need, there has been little innovation in the way we donate to established non-profits. Non-profit donation forms typically require users to fill in dozens of input fields and are nearly impossible to complete on mobile.
Enter The Heartstrings Project. For anyone writing about important issues, here on Medium or elsewhere on the web, a Heartstrings campaign gives readers a quick and easy way to contribute to a cause. Creating and embedding a Heartstrings campaign takes only a moment and instantly enables readers to donate to a registered non-profit without ever leaving the page.
