Tip #19: A Workaround to Filter by Tag A OR Tag B

Right now, when you combine multiple tags or filters in Highrise, only contacts that meet ALL selected criteria are shown, not contacts that meet ANY selected criteria.

For example, filtering by the tag demo and the tag Opportunity! only shows contacts with both tags. Not one of the tags.

This shows 30 total contacts:

Filtering by demo and Opportunity! only shows contacts with both tags.

So how can you filter by contacts tagged demo OR Opportunity! right now?

Use a workaround!

You can add a temporary tag when filtering by each tag individually, and then filter by that temporary tag.

First, filter by demo and add the temporary tag: demo-Opportunity!

Adding a temporary tag helps when filtering by one tag OR another tag.

Now, filter by Opportunity! and add the temporary tag: demo-Opportunity!

Adding a temporary tag helps when filtering by one tag OR another tag.

And finally, filter by the temporary tag demo-Opportunity! and see contacts with both tags.

This now shows 113 total contacts:

This workaround comes in handy when you’re planning to send a Broadcast message or when you need to export your tagged contacts.

And yes, it does take a few extra steps. It’s a workaround.

Our team continues to consider ways to improve filtering options, including full support for OR functionality. Please stay tuned!
