We all wish to connect, to be surrounded by others that care about us, that relate to us and that we of course can share ourselves with. It in fact becomes imperative that we choose wisely who we surround ourselves with and how we do this.

How can something like the blockchain facilitate growth, connection, authentic significance and transformation within the dynamic of our relationships? Blockchain may be considered the new technology of trust and it is here that we find ourselves as a collective in an interesting ‘relational place’.

The blockchain combines the openness of the internet with the security of cryptography to give our global community a faster, safer way to verify key information and establish trust, security and clarity (key components of any successful relationship).

Trust is required in order to connect authentically, meaningfully, fully and wholly to one another. Without trust we cannot build longevity and open transparent connection in our relationships. A study conducted by two professors — Mike Morrison & Neil Roese in 2011 on happiness and regrets essentially stated that the greatest regrets we have are those around our interpersonal relationships.

It’s well established by psychologists that the quality of our relationships is hugely important to our sense of self and sense of wellbeing — far more important than our economic earning capacities and career potential. So, when we observe what inter-collective and relational values matter most to us, we can observe a theme of honesty, trust, transparency, authenticity and sincerity (to mention a few) that may lead us towards greater connectedness, fulfilment, meaning and essentially happiness.

But what has the blockchain got to do with the evolution of our relationships and how can the advent and continual growth of blockchain technology in our socioeconomic frameworks lend itself to a more cohesive and connected humanity that share more common interests than self interests?

Firstly, business is an imperative in the way we communicate and trade globally. Through business we grow, discover, create, share, solve problems and evolve. This explosion of transparent business interaction predicated by blockchain technology is creating new and innovative opportunities for us a humanity to ‘show up’ to life differently — to do business differently and to treat each other differently. Our focuses now shift from mistrust to greater trust.

Secondly, any activity, idea implemented, cultural nuance, socially accepted practice, governing model, etc. is essentially an extension of our collective and individual psyches (conscious and unconscious). What we are observing is that there is a greater demand for equity, fairness, transparency and trust from people towards big business, governments, leaders and large financial institutions (basically a reflection of how we desire to interact in any expression of our relationships). As an example, we can observe this in many countries and societies today protesting for greater transparency and equity.

The blockchain makes this viable, possible and in fact may fast track the way we connect. No longer must we doubt, be ‘extra’ cautious or apply a psycho-emotional filter of ‘guilty, until proven innocent’ approach to the way we connect and view others (we can drop the facade and begin to open to trust). We can lower the defences, open ourselves to trusting more and focus on the quality of the relationship or the transaction as opposed to concentrating on survival and losing an opportunity to grow, innovate and add value to self and society simultaneously. When our collective practices transmute, they influence the way we view the world as an individual.

The essence of what the blockchain is, is facilitating this posture in the world, this movement and this approach to changing the manner in which we choose to connect. We are now able to connect transparently, openly and in an open manner. Devoid of fear and now focused on adding value, learning and growing together as a community.

As we continue to observe massive paradigm shifts in common place cultural practices such as converging technologies and commerce moving towards a more transparent and connected way of interacting; we will also observe our social, familial and intimate relationships transforming. We will align with the collective greater and begin to value these core traits that are innate within us. These traits that promote a sense of safety, security, certainty and belongingness — something every human being longs for, its an evolutionary disposition to feel safe and connected.

Welcome to the future of relationships supported by technology and frameworks moving humanity forward in so many different ways.

One is always glad to be of service. S.Sifandos.
