What does it mean when as a humanity we are faced with a new way of being, connecting, communicating, doing business, interacting, thinking, behaving and feeling? How do we manage this change, how do we move through these transformations as a collective and how do we mitigate the risk of anxiety around the unknown?

The advent and implementation of technology has been influential with respect to our evolution as a species — physical, biosocial, emotional and cultural. From fire, to the wheel, to the industrial revolution, to exponential growth in networks and sensors, to biotechnology, DNA sequencing, the blockchain revolution and so much more.

Technology is changing the way we relate to each other and the blockchain is no different. We are entering a new worlds of connectedness and understanding. We are shifting our societal values and this is becoming more and more evident with great focus being placed on technologies, systems of governance and preferences on relating that are demonstrating deeper connectedness and the enhancement of our overall individual and collective wellbeing.

The net positive social impact of technology is driving us forward as a humanity and as the blockchain becomes more mainstream we will allow ourselves to trust more and give more to the enhancement of our sociocultural systems, relationships and individualised wellness.

Well-being is measured by the degree of satisfaction, meaning and fulfilment experienced by people (individuals and groups) throughout the lifespan from having their needs and desires met. Technology plays a significant role in how it effects the well-being of individuals and communities.

Technology is ultimately created to enhance our lives, be more efficient, connect us deeper and be inclusive in our needs. Technology and innovation is designed to meet a need and to alter the environment in some way in order to achieve greater inter-connected, sustainable and inclusive well-being. When technology is created and subsequently used by society, various aspects of individual well-being are affected.

Technology can have both positive and negative effects on 3 particular aspects of our experienced well-being:

P. Practical well-being

E. Emancipartory well-being

T. Technical well-being

The reality we have a choice, we always have. HOW we utilise technology has always been blurred. With the blockchain, we are removing the subjectivity of decision making. We are creating a safe space for exploring humanity’s needs, growing together and creating in unison.

PRACTICAL WELL-BEING refers to our ability to understand and communicate consciously in the world in which we live. It results from helping people to do ordinary, everyday activities, business activities or service (work) of the world. It is a product of our ability to communicate and connect across vast distances in a global community. For example, SMS, emails, satellite based technology, new forms of exchange and medication. Technologies that can affect our practical well-being include: Communication based technologies, education based technologies, medical based technologies and agricultural based technologies.

EMANCIPATORY WELL-BEING refers to our ability and freedom to participate effectively, openly and without judgement in a vast range of circumstances and contexts; such as education, employment, recreation and the wider community. It results from allowing people the the freedom, support and ability to participate in a variety of situations through systems enhancements, autonomous functioning and the deregulation of strict and limiting rules. Technologies that can affect our emancipatory well-being include: education and employment related technologies, lifestyle and recreation related and community related. Organisations can place their services on the blockchain and begin to transparently trade and serve.

TECHNICAL WELL-BEING refers to our ability to have mastery over our environment and circumstances. It results from being able to manage and master our environment for reasons of comfort, enhancement, effective use of resources and adaptation to our surroundings. For example: the internet of things, renewable energy technology and smart houses. Environments that may be controlled through the use of technology include: our natural environment, our physical environment and social environment.

I would also add RELATIONAL WELL-BEING to this equation and begin to understand how technologies (such as the blockchain and communication tech) is representative of what our collective unconscious is yearning for is also providing a legitimate platform for our well-being to flourish, growth to be experienced and the evolution of our expression to begin to take authentic shape.

With technologies such as the blockchain that are predicated upon efficiency, inclusivity, sustainability, connectedness and that are primarily common interest focused (values society is now adopting as the new norm) we are observing a trend of new companies, entrepreneurs (social, tech-orientated and future focused ) innovating harder than ever before.

Focusing on individual and collective health as a means to enhance humanity. Whether this by with bio-wearables, innovative apps, socially equitable crypto currencies or ideas to solve some of humanity’s grandest inefficiencies and problems, the transparency and speed of the blockchain is facilitating this growth wildly.

Something else to consider is the the rising billion and the impact they will have on humanity, technology and the manner in which we are evolving to trade, connect, relate and communicate. Our overall interconnected and holistic social and individual health is predicted on our ability to remain transparent, true to our evolving values and open to change. The new paradigm is a direct reflection of what we are yearning for as a society — these new values that are allowing us to enter a new paradigm are life transformative. We are ready…

One is always glad to be of service. S.Sifandos.
