One night, five startups, sixteen weeks of solid work

On Tuesday night, the PCH Innovation Hub hosted the eighth Highway1 Demo Day, which gathered just under 200 investors, mentors, family, and friends to watch the startups pitch their companies.

Highway1 VP Kurt Dammermann kicked off the show by welcoming the crowd. Each startup then took the stage to pitch their companies.

Somewear CEO James Kubik presented the next generation of technology for adventure travel. The company’s first product, a compact satellite hotspot, keeps any smartphone connected off grid. By laying a foundation of connectivity, Somewear is bringing real-time, connected applications to outdoor explorers and adventure travelers.

CEO Michael Plocek introduced Telegnos, a solution for keeping boats and boaters safe. The Telegnos Suite includes a location tracker, a fleet management system, and a BoatHub that integrates with a boat’s existing systems, and collects and monitors boat- and marine-related data. Telegnos offers boat owners and managers peace of mind through remote access and control, reducing the potential financial costs of undiagnosed problems and catastrophic disasters, while increasing profits from rentals. The Telegnos Suite allows users to spend less time and money on maintenance and other issues.

Pubinno CEO Can Algül announced Taptronics, a smart tap for perfect beer. Taptronics increases keg yield using smart flow algorithms and patent-pending robotics. Installed in place of manual taps, Taptronics reduces waste, controls the flow of beer with precision, and saves bartenders time. Taptronics serves the perfect beer and delivers a smooth and creamy foam that creates a wonderful drinking experience. Taptronics is a new channel between bars and beer brands, and yields operational and quality metrics in real-time. The company already has 30 paying customers and is currently working with two of the 10 largest breweries in the world, Heineken and Efes Pilsen.

CEO Kela Ivonye presented Mailhaven, which is solving inefficiencies in the last mile of the consumer package delivery supply chain. Mailhaven eliminates missed deliveries and stolen packages with an automated physical mailbox, the Haven, that secures packages for homeowners. The standalone mobile app allows online shoppers to track and manage their deliveries across couriers, providing a more convenient online shopping experience. Together, the Mailhaven ecosystem gives homeowners, couriers, and retailers the accountability and reliability they need for a worry-free eCommerce experience.

Zach Stein, CEO of Osmo Systems, addressed helping the world’s largest fish and shrimp farms monitor their water quality online. The company’s first product, OsmoBot, helps increase yields and efficiency by eliminating manual testing and automatically tracking and uploading the most important aquatic parameters to the cloud. This gives farm managers unprecedented insight into their water quality with minimal skill required by employees, all at a price that is scalable across thousands of tanks and ponds. The company has pre-sold 50 units to small farms and universities in North America and has a LOI and testing agreement with one of the world’s largest shrimp hatcheries.

After the pitches, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and plenty of handshakes and conversations ensued.

Congratulations to the companies!
