Now, 6 Portuguese startups are modernizing the hotel industry
According to Luís Araújo, the president of Turismo de Portugal, the tourism sector is one of the main drivers of the Portuguese economy. Portugal is already seen as a tourist destination worldwide and has received noteworthy distinctions and awards. With this growth, great opportunities arise to invest in scalable businesses. Miguel Fontes, from Startup Lisboa says that it’s an activity that is continuously expanding. There is an entire value chain that can and should be considered in digital economy projects. These projects range from planning trips to the consumer experience, including assessment and recommendation, as well as developing loyalty strategies.
The Hotel-Up consortium aims to boost one of the fastest growing sectors in Portugal — Tourism. This is something unprecedented: five startups from the same area, but that present transversal and complementary solutions. They do not compete with each other and, together, can grow more and more easily. B-Guest, Climber Hotel, Infraspeak, TeamOutLoud and VPS are five Portuguese startups that have decided to unite forces and revolutionize the hotel industry. And now, HiJiffy is gladly joining the quintet!
Hotel-Up — The journey
Created in 2016 by the five startups, the consortium aimed to support the digitization of hotels in Portugal. In the year of its creation, Hotel-up had 64 employees, 56 clients and served 189 hotels in 5 countries, having raised nearly 5 million euros of investment. The main goal was to give more value to its customers by jointly selling and interconnecting its products, sharing best practices and other joint actions that bring visibility and efficiency to companies and customers.
In 2018 with the entry of HiJiffy the goal is the same: to bring Portuguese technological innovation to hundreds of hotels. Currently, Hotel-up consortium adds up to an accumulated investment of nearly eight million euros, employing 83 employees, doubling the number of customers to 124 and the number of hotels served to 402 in 15 countries, tripling the geographical presence! Some of the clients are the Vila Galé, Pestana, Sheraton, Intercontinental, Bairro Alto Hotel and Discovery Hotel Management.

B-Guest
A company specialized in automating and digitizing the check-in process to help hotels reduce operating costs, increase revenues and make guests happier. Infraspeak
Who said that Hotel operations should be expensive, time-consuming, bureaucratic and non-efficient, resulting in a bad guest experience? That time has passed! Infraspeak is a fully modular platform for Hotel Operations Management. That is, they offer a solution that allows hotels to centralize all maintenance information, increasing efficiency, room availability and customer satisfaction, reducing costs and bureaucracy by more than 70%.
TeamOutLoud
An enterprise work-social app (with features of a social network such as news feed, notifications, posts) and an employee recognition tool. It increases the engagement and productivity of all your employees and reduces turnover! This startup is a powerful 360º recognition tool!
VPS
Virtual Power Solutions is a company focused on the provision of Energy Management services that combine the monitoring and control of consumption on a powerful proprietary platform to the efficient reconversion of large buildings. They are shaping energy for a sustainable future!
In the short term, each of the members of Hotel-Up intends to expand operations internationally and to lead their respective markets.
