Outdoor cooking no doubt adds fun and enjoyment to our outdoor experiences. But it’s also necessary to keep in mind several rules to make cookware to perform well while retaining safety.

You need to keep in mind full preparation ahead of time is a must. Make sure you have tested the equipment before setting out. After all, it’s much easier for you to fix it at home than at outdoors where there is limited tool available. And the whole journey is likely to be ruined with frustrated emotions.

Outdoor Stove

Check whether you have got the essential accessories with you. For instance, the wind shield if any. It’s a very useful accessory to guide the wind and thus improve the efficiency for heating. But be careful not to shield the stove completely. You need to leave at least one side open to avoid the deformation of fuel tank caused by overheating. Sometimes if improperly handled, it may also lead to an explosion. This shall be especially noted when two stoves are used for cooking in one big pot.

Be careful not to mix fuel. Every stove has its own designated fuel. Some uses LPG; some uses gas, some simply works well with wood. If you try to use kerosene for petrol furnace, it will reduce the oil capacity of the lamp wick. The application of butane in an EPI furnace will make the fire output weak. You may think not too much of reduced oil supply capacity or heat efficiency. Try to think the possibility of the disintegration or deflagration.

Pay attention to the using place and ventilation issue. This matters for all kinds of stoves. Whether it’s powered by LPG or Gas or if it’s just a fire maple stove using wood as power supply. It’s generally a taboo to use it in confined place. Under fine weather, try to choose an open and smooth land for setting up a temporary kitchen. Under rainy or cold winter days, where there is no other options than to cook inside the tent, there is more to note. Better to put a wide container (furnace box, lid or plate) or exclusively fireproof slab under the stove. This is on one had to guarantee better stability and more swift operation when there is overflow fuel. You can simply remove the container or the slab. It’s better to ignite and preheat the stove outside the tent and then move it inside to avoid accident. Make sure there is a smooth exit for withdrawing the stove. If there is a safety valve, avoid facing it to people or flammable items.

With the right procedure and tips to follow, outdoor cooking experience can only safe and sound; but also extend enjoyment of your journey.
