When selecting sunglasses, it’s very important to choose the right color for lenses. Different colors indicate different sunlight absorption and protection degrees. Thus it’s obvious that some works better than others and there are others that shall be avoided.

The essential role for sunglasses is to protect the eyes by screening off ultra-violet rays. Based on the wave length, UV can be divided into UVA, UVB and UVC. Among them, the UVC has been absorbed by the Ozone sphere and UVA and UVB will reach the surface. If exposed too long in the above two rays, the skin will be burnt or suffering from canceration under serious occasions. Many people may hold the idea that the darker the lens color is, the better the sunglasses. This is not true. Most widely recognized great lens colors for outdoor eyewear are gray, jasper, brown. Lens of other colors are mostly more for decoration than for protection and some are even harmful to the eyes.

According to experts, sunglasses with blue lens shall be avoided. These sunglasses will directly lead to disease for the eyes and the reasons are sufficient. With the increasing of age, there are more and more photoreceptor compounds in retinal cells. These matters will be greatly activated by the wavelength of the blue light to its maximum degree. This will further lead to the formation of harmful free radicals. While other lens such as yellow and amber lenses can filter blue light, blue sunglasses will let these harmful blue lights pass to the eyes and further bring damage to the eyes.

To ensure the best protection for your eyes, it’s necessary to choose the right color for sunglasses lens. It’s especially important to note that blue lens sunglasses shall be avoided.
