A day on Mt. Hiko provides breathtaking views, historical shrines, a 1200 year old cedar tree, and really nice hiking. There are three peaks. If you can’t fit them all in, skip Kita dake (North peak). The route down via Minami dake (South peak) is longer than the way up, but so so worth it.

Where: Yamakuni-machi, Nakatsu (Fukuoka side of the prefectural border)

Altitude: 1200 m

Estimated time: 6–8 hours

Car park: Hiko-san Shrine Copper Tori 英彦山神宮 銅の鳥居 https://goo.gl/maps/sXQRbENVh5K2
