August was a busy month for our campus team! Our leaders participated in protests, collected hundreds of petition signatures, and spent the final weeks of summer preparing to launch their #ZeroDebt campaigns on their respective campuses.

As we all know, debt comes in many shapes and sizes and it is created in various ways. At UMass-Boston, students are currently weighed down by the increasing prices of parking on their campus. This past Tuesday part of our team joined over a hundred members of the “SaveUMB” coalition to protest the almost 100% increase in parking fees to $15 a day for commuter students. We braved the heat and picketed outside of the ribbon cutting for the new dorm that is opening on campus this fall, letting the UMass administration know that these increased parking fees are unacceptable.

Overall in August, our campus leaders collected over 200 new petition signatures They also continued to share the stories of those affected by student debt. Our team of fantastic students have truly set themselves up for success, let’s all stay tuned to see how they can bring us closer to #ZeroDebt this fall!
