An enormous thank you to everyone who participated in our #UnaffordableUMass campaign on twitter where our aim was to shout loud and clear: ENOUGH OF THE BLAME GAME! Students come out as the losers when public higher education institutions and state government have funding disagreements. Rather than merely blaming one another for lack of funding, we must all participate in a discussion to fix the issue of unaffordable public higher education specifically and the broken higher education financing system in general. By engaging all decision-makers and stakeholders in UMass tuition increase, we are seeking for #UnaffordableUMass to spark such conversation.

It is through community engagement that Hildreth Institute was able to reach the targeted audience — Massachusetts’ legislature, Marty Meehan, and the UMass board of trustees. We will continue to advocate for student’s rights through actions from within, without, and against the state. A #ZeroDebt future isn’t just equitable but a way for us to create a sustainable higher education financing system.
