The organization of this ‘Shaand Mahayagya’ was conducted by the Rajta Khoonds and people of the Ubhadesh area in Shimla. Khoonds were believed to be a warrior class of the Khasa Tribe. It is believed that, the primary duty of this community was to ensure the safety of villagers, protect the guests summoned by the Deity. The main characteristic of this community was their fearlessness towards life and death. Perhaps this is why the tradition of entrusting them with specific tasks on special occasions still continues today. Three different Khoond groups, known as Dogra Khoond, Golo Khoond, and Kalta Khoond, were invited to the Shaand Mahayagya. All the Khoonds danced with their swords and sought the blessings of the Koteshwar Mahadev. It is impressive that these people have still managed to keep their tradition alive.
