At Hims & Hers we’ve heard over and again how much you appreciate the quality care we offer through our platform. You’ve told us how great and convenient it is to address your health concerns with licensed doctors, but without embarrassment or judgement. We couldn’t be happier that we’re part of this solution.

We’ve talked about how you can be sure Hims & Hers are putting patients first. We want you to know the numerous steps we take to help protect you and your safety so you can have peace of mind when using our platform. So today we want to tell you a little more about what we do to ensure the prescription products you obtain through Hims & Hers are high quality and safe.

We’ve all heard about that friend or friend of a friend that ordered a product online only to receive something totally different than what was being advertised. Worse, some have experienced this unfortunate situation firsthand.

Here at Hims & Hers, we work with leading experts to make sure you only get exactly what you’re expecting after you and your doctor determine treatment options that are best for you. Some of the best and the brightest who are helping advise us as we grow include:

  • Dr. Peter J. Stahl, MD: Director of Male Reproductive and Sexual Medicine at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Urology at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons
  • Dr. Katherine Gregory MD: Professor at the University of California — San Francisco and Stanford.
  • Dr. Arash Mostaghimi, MD MPA MPH: Assistant professor of dermatology, director of the inpatient dermatology consult service, and co-director of the Complex Medical Dermatology Fellowship at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.
  • Dr. Susan Kellogg Spadt, PhD NP: Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, professor of Human Sexuality at Widener University in Chester, PA, and clinical associate faculty at the University of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
  • Dr. Justin M. Ko, MD MBA: Director and Chief of Medical Dermatology for Stanford Health Care (SHC).
  • Dr. Ashley Tapscott, MD: Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

There’s no room for error when it comes to your health. That’s why we’ve gone to great lengths to ensure that if your doctor determines a prescription is the best treatment option for you, the medications you’re sent from the pharmacies we work with are the real deal.

You should never have to worry if your medications are up to the standard of care you deserve.

So get ready to get into the weeds on details we obsess over to ensure your quality at every step of your experience using the Hims & Hers platforms.

Only quality, only the real deal

If you choose to have your prescriptions filled through one of the pharmacies available through the Hims & Hers platform, your prescription is sent to a fully licensed third-party pharmacy located here in the United States. These pharmacies comply with stringent licensing requirements and related regulations governing how and from where medications can be sourced. We only work with pharmacies who have been accredited by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy under the Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (VIPPS) program (learn more about VIPPS criteria here).

Most pharmacies (whether a pharmacy you access through Hims & Hers or a brick-and-mortar pharmacy on your street) work with a variety of drug manufacturers and wholesalers to supply the actual medications you receive. These drug manufacturers and wholesalers might be based in locations around the globe, but every single one is required to follow US laws and FDA-enforced regulations surrounding current good manufacturing practices designed to guarantee your safety.

The licensed pharmacies we connect you with source their prescription medication from FDA registered distributors to certify quality. They use reputable companies like McKesson, Amerisource Bergen, and Cardinal (among others), who are highly regulated under both federal and state law, to ensure you’re getting authentic medications when you have your prescriptions filled through pharmacies using the Hims & Hers platforms.

Also, the pharmacies that you’re connected with through our platforms are held to the same standards of quality and authenticity you’re used to when you walk into any pharmacy to have a prescription filled in-person.

Even with the assurances provided by the stringent licensing and regulatory requirements these pharmacies meet, we want there to be no question that the prescription products you receive are exactly what you order. To make sure of that, we are also looking at ways we can institute extra, independent audits of pharmacies we work with to ensure you have additional verification of the prescription products you receive. We care that quality is always right.

Pharmacy Drug Procurement Process

So what standards are pharmacies held to when they’re filling your prescriptions? Glad you asked.

Pharmacies are highly regulated at both the federal and state level, and state pharmacy boards as well as other government agencies are very active in enforcing these laws if they believe there are any issues with a particular pharmacy or its sourcing or distribution process.

One of the most significant laws that pharmacies must comply with is the FDA-enforced Drug Supply Chain Security Act, which creates strict standards for how pharmaceuticals are sourced. This law requires that pharmacies detail and follow a strict chain of custody from the manufacturer all the way through to the pharmacy, where the pharmacy is then required to keep detailed records that include lot level transaction information for every single prescription medication.

These requirements exist so that any pharmacy that fulfills your prescription for a medication is able to track information for that specific medication they are dispensing every step of the way all the way back to the manufacturer.

This is critical to ensuring your safety and for peace of mind about how your prescription medications are sourced

Commitment to Quality

You should never have to worry that what you’re buying online is authentic. Especially when it comes to your health. It’s a responsibility we take extremely seriously.

That’s why we take every possible step to ensure we only work with licensed pharmacies who have strong track records when it comes to safety and compliance with applicable state and federal laws.

We also work with our partner provider network to regularly review the quality of care provided by the doctors on our platforms to ensure excellence and make sure that as we scale the patient experience, quality and safety are the hallmark of our model — from the initial doctor visit all the way through to products you receive

Be confident when you come to Hims & Hers, you’re getting access to prescription products that have been through an extensive quality check process to ensure you receive the high quality you expect and deserve.
