That’s why we go above and beyond to ensure the prescription products you receive from the pharmacies we work with contain exactly what you ordered. Unfortunately, while this seems like it should be the norm, that isn’t necessarily the case.
Counterfeit and substandard medications have become a massive and deadly global problem. The World Health Organization estimates that 1 in 10 medical products in low- and middle-income countries is now either fake or of substandard quality, leading to the deaths of tens of thousands of people every year. In the U.S., the FDA regularly issues warnings about fake or low-quality medications, and between October 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018 more than 20,000 FDA-regulated products, mostly drugs, were refused admission into the country. Just this year, the WHO issued an alert after a fake version of a drug used to treat leukemia was found circulating in both Europe and the Americas.
Generic drugs are now produced all over the world and manufacturing processes can vary widely from one company to the next. Meanwhile, the distributors who actually provide drugs to consumers rely on those same manufacturers to test for quality. Sometimes, this system can result in customers receiving drugs that may not be as safe as they should be. In this age of globalized medicine, we think your health, wellness, and peace of mind are worth the extra scrutiny. That’s why we strongly believe in additional independent, third-party testing that goes beyond the standard quality and safety practices for pharmacies.
We subject the portfolio of prescription products offered by pharmacies through our platform to testing by an independent, FDA approved, ISO accredited analytical laboratory in order to confirm whether the active ingredient(s) are present and at what concentration. This sort of rigorous testing hasn’t been widely adopted in the industry, but we know it’s worth the extra effort to ensure the pharmacies we work with provide our customers with the highest quality products possible.
