Welcome Toby Cosgrove — Hims & Hers’ newest board member
We are honored to announce the addition of Dr. Toby Cosgrove to our board of directors.
Hims & Hers began with a mission to empower everyone to get the care they need. Millions of people have been left out of the current healthcare system because of long wait times, exorbitant costs or simply because they’re too embarrassed to talk to their doctor about their condition. We know that digital health has the potential to serve as the front door to a broader healthcare ecosystem and help those who have struggled to access care. We have a bold vision, and one that we will only realize if we assemble the best team possible. We couldn’t be more proud to welcome Dr. Cosgrove, one of the best and most experienced minds in healthcare, to our team to help fulfill our mission.
Dr. Cosgrove has been an industry pioneer in recognizing the promise of digital health. He projected that 2019 will be the year of the digital health revolution, so it feels especially fitting to be joining forces today around our shared mission: helping more people across the US access quality care.

Few organizations have so powerfully demonstrated their commitment to patient safety and quality care as the Cleveland Clinic. As CEO and president from 2004 through 2017, Dr. Cosgrove oversaw some of the Cleveland Clinic’s most remarkable achievements, including recognition as the #2 hospital in the country for two consecutive years and ranking #1 heart program in the country according to U.S. News & World Report. He also led the success of Cleveland Clinic’s fastest growing digital health initiatives, redefining patient access through online, on-demand care. He remains close to the Cleveland Clinic’s work, now serving as the Executive Advisor working with Cleveland Clinic leadership.
Dr. Cosgrove has impacted nearly every sector of our healthcare system. He has continuously been at the forefront of new technologies to improve human health, delivery of healthcare services, and physician’s experiences, holding 30 patents for medical and clinical products. He is currently Executive Advisor to the Google Cloud Healthcare and Life Sciences team and has served as a trusted advisor to three successive presidents.

More on Dr. Toby Cosgrove
Dr. Cosgrove joined Cleveland Clinic in 1975, and chaired the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgery from 1989 to 2004. He performed over 22,000 operations and earned an international reputation in valve repair. As CEO from 2004 to 2017, he reorganized services, improved outcomes and patient experience, and strengthened the organization’s finances.
Dr. Cosgrove graduated from Williams College and the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He trained at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brook General Hospital in London. In 1967, he was a surgeon in the U.S. Air Force, earning a Bronze Star.
He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, and a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. In 2016, he was a Fortune Businessperson of the Year (№14).
