Dashavatar Series Part II: Kurma Avatar!!

This is the second story in the Dashavatar series of 10 forms taken by Lord Vishnu to overcome evil forces on Earth.

In the previous part I presented the story of Matsya Avatar and today I will be covering Kurma Avatar. Matsya avatar appeared in the form of a fish and Kurma was in form of Tortoise so this is aligned to the phases of human life evolution starting from marine life and gradually evolving to larger life forms.

Background Context

As per Hindu mythology the divine entities are divided into 2 groups namely Devatas and Asuras. Devatas are benevolent gods that strive for harmony across the universe whereas Asuras are malevolent forces that want to take over control from the Devatas.

The Devatas always had an upper hand over the Asuras but Shukra who is the Guru of Asuras acquires Sanjivni Vidya which means knowledge of bringing the dead back to life.

This tilts the balance in favour of the Asuras as the demons slated in battled with Devatas were brought back to life.
