Workshop on DeSci & Healthcare Innovation Hosted by Hippocrat at St. Mary’s Hospital

A pioneering workshop focusing on the evolution and innovation in virtual healthcare was recently held at St. Mary’s University Hospital. This event, jointly organized by the Korean Association of Older Musculoskeletal Medicine and the Hippocrat Foundation, attracted notable participants from the medical field.

Distinguished speakers, including Kwon Soon-yong, honorary chairman of the Korean Society of Digital Health, Park Hyung-yeol, an orthopedic surgery professor at Catholic University’s Eunpyeong St. Mary’s Hospital, Choi Hyun-sub, CEO of Hippocrat Labs, and Cho In-sung, director of the Economic Promotion Bureau in Samcheok, Gangwon-do, led discussions on the advancements and future prospects of virtual healthcare services.

The workshop served as a collaborative platform for professionals at the forefront of virtual healthcare to exchange insights on current practices and to envision future developments. Highlighting the workshop, honorary chairman Kwon Soon-yong underscored the importance of accessible virtual care solutions, particularly for medically underserved communities, through his introductory speech. The event featured two main sessions:

In the first, Professor Park Hyung-yeol unveiled findings from a comprehensive survey on virtual healthcare, illustrating real-world examples of telemedicine and summarizing feedback from healthcare providers and patients. This session underscored the essential role and the areas for improvement of virtual healthcare.

The second session was led by Choi Hyun-sub, founder of Hippocrat Labs, who explored the integration of virtual healthcare and Decentralized Science (DeSci). He elaborated on how the decentralization of medical data collection and utilization could offer personalized healthcare services, highlighting the use of blockchain technology for secure data exchange and the potential for advancing medical research and patient care. Choi also introduced HIPPO, an upcoming app designed to facilitate virtual healthcare by allowing patients to manage their medical data for personalized care.

An additional presentation by Director Cho In-sung showcased Samcheok City’s initiatives to expand virtual healthcare access, particularly in underserved regions, utilizing Information and Communication Technology for healthcare.

Concluding the workshop, Choi Hyun-sub expressed gratitude for the opportunity to present the HIPPO platform to healthcare professionals and gather their input. This workshop marks a significant step towards harnessing the potential of virtual healthcare and fostering innovative solutions to enhance patient care and medical research.
