Stupid Sh*t Techbros/AIBros Have Done This Week

The first in what will most likely be a long series of techbros lacking any self awareness at all.

It’s only been a few months with this and I already feel like this…

Let’s start with perhaps the MOST ridiculous use for AI ever…reinventing roller skates/heelys…yes, you read that right. Let’s use a massively powerful tech to make roller skates.

Because, of course, one of the largest problems on the planet is that people don’t walk fast enough and have no access to wheels on shoes. Oh, and they’re $1400. They’re hideous looking and expensive, totally hitting all the “Hey rich, trendy types, you NEED THESE NOW!” demo perfectly.

Next up on our list is AI “artists” (cough cough…or as I call them, prompt monkeys) showcasing their insecurities so massively that they have to fake drawing their AI “art” to try to look like real artists. Kelly McKernan shared this

Apparently AI folks have taken to running photos of themselves “drawing” into AI to generate fake images of them doing artwork, and this particular person has a whole series and is selling his “prompts” on an online store.

If he had taken time to learn photo shop he wouldn’t look like a hack job of a human painting a massively tall alien Batman with glutes that could crush rocks.

Then there’s this person going by Saint_Saturday who got called out so hard he deleted his Twitter. Why did he get called out? For, once again, faking that he is an artist. All this effort into creating videos of them misleading people, yet they can’t seem to be bothered to take the time to learn how to draw. Weird.

Now, AI prompters like to say that it is an “artform” to learn how to prompt, and that it takes time and effort and…stuff.

Really?

When you can type in 3 words and get a complete image you’re not fooling anyone. Example.

Yes, I am sure they spent HOURS agonizing over “Creative artsy fun”

And finally…for now there is “Objaverse” which WHOLESALE ripped of 3d models that were ALREADY offered for free as part of Creative Commons from Sketchfab.

So, let’s make this clear. These assets were already free to use, so how, exactly, is stealing them to make them free again “democratization” of art?

More and more of this AI crap is scam after scam after scam and it all traces back to have the source code be open sourced and available to the public.

Not ONE SINGLE THING Generative AI is doing is useful to help society advance as a whole, it’s meaningless as a “new tech” because all it is doing is making art faster. Which was NEVER a problem that needed solving for anyone other than Corporate America who wants to get rid of payroll and fire humans, or, scammers who want to use it to generate more boring content in their hunt for rubes willing to buy what they’re selling, all the while the scammers have no skills or talent at all.

Every single version of art has free tools to use, free tutorials to learn and artists are constantly willing to offer helpful tips to people just starting out.

Nowhere on the planet is there an artist who gatekeeps access to art.

What generative AI is showing is just how truly pathetic and lazy humans can be.
