As Museum Curator at the Latah County Historical Society, I am working on our fair exhibition which will run September 15–18. This year we have chosen to focus our programming on water to get the public thinking about it in preparation for our traveling Smithsonian Institution exhibition Water|Ways.
For the Latah County fair we have entitled our exhibition The Humble History of the Toilet. I have found some amazing examples of the various styles of toilets from mail order catalogs and have found some great histories of the toilet in our collection.
Today I am asking historic house museums and sites around the world for photographs of historic outhouses, chamber pots, toilets, or other human waste elimination devices. I am looking for any historic toilets complete with a citation of where you took the photo.
These photographs will be used for the interactive element of the exhibition where the public will try to match up the toilet facilities with the historic site. I think this will be a big hit and a fun addition to this year’s Latah County Fair! If you have time please send me a photograph at email@example.com .
If you are in Latah County I strongly encourage you to come to the fair and see the exhibition for yourself.
Thank you for your participation and I will create a new post will all of the toilets from across historic house museums here after the fair.
