HHer voice was magic. That’s what everyone said. If that wasn’t enough, imagine this; she was singing on stage one day when Queen Victoria stood up in the royal balcony-box and threw a bouquet at her feet.

Yelling praise for her. Throwing flowers. Like any other adoring fan.
The Queen of England!

It was almost unbelievable to her. Born a pauper. Less than a pauper, really. The illegitimate child of a poor schoolteacher. If daughters weren’t already a liability in 1820, an illegitimate one, yet.

There was never enough money. Never enough food. All they knew was poverty and struggle. Girls like her didn’t grow up and have the Queen of England throwing flowers at their feet. Except, she did.

It all started when she was nine. A little girl, sitting at her window singing to her kitty cat when someone’s maid walked by and stopped to listen.

The next day, the maid was back. She brought the principal dancer at the Royal Swedish Opera to listen. Mademoiselle Lundberg listened to her sing and promptly arranged an audition at the Royal Dramatic Theatre.
