Rome Origins: From Mythical Beginnings
How a Legend Sparked the Rise of an Empire
The story of Rome’s origin is wrapped in myth and mystery. To understand the Roman Empire, we must first explore how it all began.
This tale takes us back to a time of gods, heroes, and the very first foundations of what would become one of the greatest empires in history.
The Mythical Founding of Rome
The legend of Rome’s founding starts with two brothers — Romulus and Remus. Abandoned as infants and raised by a she-wolf, they grew up to become strong leaders.
But like many stories involving power, their relationship took a tragic turn.
Romulus and Remus couldn’t agree on where to establish their city, and in a heated argument, Romulus killed his brother. This act of fratricide marked the birth of Rome.
Thus, Romulus became the first king of Rome, and the city was named in his honor.
