Jared Sandberg Hired by Mariners

After three winning seasons and back-to-back Governors’ Cup titles, Jared Sandberg is moving on from his role as manager of the Durham Bulls, accepting a position with the Seattle Mariners on the major league coaching staff.

The Olympia, Wash. native will assume the role of Field Coordinator with the Mariners, marking the end of a four-year run in the Bull City which saw him post a 303–266 (.533) regular season mark. In the postseason the former big league infielder etched his name in Bulls history, leading the squad to back-to-back Governors’ Cup crowns in 2017 and 2018, and the 2017 Triple-A National Championship. With his consecutive International League championships, he joined Bill Evers and Charlie Montoyo as the only men to lead Durham to multiple league crowns.

After retiring from playing following the 2007 season, Sandberg immediately moved into a coaching role with the Tampa Bay organization in 2008. Starting in 2009 he began his managerial career, steadily moving up the ranks of the system beginning with Rookie-level Princeton and culminating in Durham. He finished his 10-year stretch of managing in the minors with a 612–522 (.540) regular season record, and earned three league championships (Short-Season Hudson Valley in 2012).
