Atlanta Braves President John Schuerholz was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday, as the longtime General Manager of the Atlanta Braves was a frequent visitor to Durham in his tenure with the team.

A unanimous induction to the Hall of Fame, Schuerholz served as the Braves GM from 1990–2007, and the Bulls were Atlanta’s Advanced-A affiliate from 1980–1997. In the eight-year span that he and the Bulls overlapped, Durham saw countless future Braves stars, most notably Chipper Jones, Andruw Jones, Ryan Klesko and Javy Lopez.

Those players would lay the groundwork for one of the greater runs in baseball history, as the Braves would go on to win 14 division titles, five pennants and the 1995 World Series in his tenure.

Prior to his time with Atlanta the 76-year-old worked for Kansas City for 22 years, and served as the team’s GM from 1982–1990.

From his friends in Durham, the Bulls say congrats to a front office icon.
