Rays Send Big Names to Minor Leagues
Now that Spring Training is in full swing, this is the time of March that teams begin to make cuts to their roster as they aim to get it down to 25 players by Opening Day. As the spring goes on and teams make those cuts, usually that means the Triple-A roster becomes clearer.
This past weekend the Rays assigned 13 players to minors camp, including quite a few familiar names to Bulls fans:
- Willy Adames
- Jake Bauers
- Jaime Schultz
- Hunter Wood
- Diego Castillo
- Justin Williams
- Jose Mujica
- Christian Arroyo
- Ryan Weber
- Nick Solak
- Joe McCarthy
- Brett Sullivan
- Jake Cronenworth
Of those 13 names, the first six listed were key members of the Bulls’ 2017 Governors’ Cup and Triple-A National Title runs. Additionally, Weber is a newcomer with 22 games of MLB experience, Arroyo was the Giants’ top prospect before he was traded for Evan Longoria and Mujica posted a 3.03 ERA in 25 Double-A starts last year.
Not to mention Solak was a top Yankees’ prospect before being traded and McCarthy hit .284 in Double-A last year.
We’re not saying that all these guys are going to find themselves on Durham’s Opening Day roster (even though they could). What we’re saying though, is that even with a handful of these guys the Bulls should be primed to begin the year strong.
