Why January Stinks

No baseball at the DBAP? Nothing to look forward to? Yeah, January stinks.

Surely January is the worst month of the year, right? Like, nothing else even comes close? Sit back and think about your favorite/least favorite months, and there’s no question January is on everyone’s ‘least favorite’ list. Let’s examine.

First things first. April-September all have Durham Bulls baseball, so right off the bat (pun intended, hehe) we have our top six months. Now in what order can be debated, but we have our top 50 percent. Not to mention those months include summer vacations, beautiful weather, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and more.

Now February? Pitchers and catchers report, you have Valentine’s Day (Wool E. can be your Valentine if you don’t have one) and the Super Bowl. March brings Spring Training games, March Madness, St. Patty’s Day and the start of good weather, PLUS the excitement that the Bulls’ season is just days away.

On the back end of the season, October brings us the MLB Postseason and Halloween, November gives us Thanksgiving (which is the GOAT) and December brings with it a couple of different holidays and long breaks from work.

But January? January is nothing more than a cold month filled with ‘wintry mixes’ and a month to feel awful about all the food you ate over the last week of December. The days are short, tensions are high because there’s nothing to look forward to in the immediate future, and you have to hear everyone talk about their resolutions. Perhaps most importantly though, there isn’t even a shred of baseball stateside.

So just know Bulls fans, that as of this writing (Jan. 4, 2017) we are just 96 days away from Bulls Opening Day at the DBAP (April 10 vs. Charlotte). Through thick and thin we will stick by you until that fateful day, and we are here for you throughout the wretched month of January. If you’re not already, follow us on Twitter and Instagram, and like us on Facebook. We promise to bring you good news leading up to the best six months of the year.

*Editor’s Note: The author’s birthday is in the month of January, and this is still the author’s sentiment. Pretty telling, no?
