It’s easy to love the small stationery shops for their charming displays and aisles full of colored envelopes and stamps, but it’s good business sense to think big. There are several advantages to ordering online, including:

  • The online stores listed below are typically less expensive with better quality items than the shops that market to DIY weddings and baby showers.
  • You won’t be tempted to buy random craft supplies or more cute journals you don’t need.
  • Several sell samples and swatches for as low as $1 per item (including shipping).
  • You’ll save time. Calculate how long it takes you to drive, park, shop, check out, and drive back to work. Is your time worth less than a $10 shipping charge?
  • You’ll save LOTS of money. In fact, on average you’ll save 40–80%! Example: 500 Stardream Gold A7 envelopes are $89.75 + shipping at Envelope Mall and $175.00 at Paper Source.

Here are my favorite places to order online:

If I can’t find what I need there, my next call is to my local printer. Sometimes they have access to distributors with stock that is not available online, either directly from the paper mill or from another distributor.
