Dropbox is a widely used file-hosting service utilized by over 14 million customers around the world. Initially founded in 2008, Dropbox rose to prominence as an all-in-one solution for cloud storage, file synchronization, personal cloud, and client software. Now, they’ve expanded into other categories like collaboration and note-taking features with Dropbox Paper, which is a great interactive note-taking tool built for teams, Dropbox Spaces, which is a way to bring files and cloud content together with the tools your team wants to use, and Dropbox Transfer, which lets you securely send large files–up to 100 GB–to any recipient, even if they don’t have Dropbox.

Plans in Dropbox range from free to advanced, which costs $20 per month when billed annually. There’s also an enterprise option that offers a few additional functionalities like 24/7 support and a centralized admin console, among other capabilities (pricing only available upon request). Dropbox is great for teams of all sizes sending and receiving large files (either images, videos, or text files), especially those in a creative field at places like an agency, design firm, or magazine publisher. That being said, Dropbox is used by thousands of teams that aren’t in creative fields — 56% of Fortune 500 companies have at least one Dropbox account within their organization. How crazy is that?

Aside from the traditional file-sharing capabilities, teams also use Dropbox for powerful cloud storage that serves as a back-up drive of sorts, which means you’ll never lose files into the ether again. Dropbox is also great for syncing files across devices — you can save a file on your desktop into a Dropbox folder, and have access to it on your morning commute. Another major upside of Dropbox is the tool’s integrations. It works seamlessly with a variety of workplace apps you likely already have in place. Let’s take a look at a few of our favorite Dropbox integrations.

Hive x Dropbox

Hive is a powerful project management tool that powers teams at Starbucks, Google, Comcast and Toyota. With flexible project views, analytics and over 1,000 integrations, Hive works in harmony with Dropbox as a true all-in-one workspace. To sync your Hive account and Dropbox, complete the following steps:

  1. Click on “Files Panel” icon beside your avatar
  2. Select the Dropbox from the dropdown
  3. It will open a new window that will require you to enter your username and password
  4. Sign in and you will instantly have access to all your Dropbox files.

Once your Dropbox account is connected to Hive, you’ll be able to attach files to a Hive task, in a comment on a task, in a chat message, or on a project home page. This integration is great because it cuts down on the time spent toggling back and forth between tools — you’ve got everything you need to collaborate with your team in one place.

Slack x Dropbox

Slack is a widely-used chat app that has been a transformative part of team collaboration over the last five years. With Slack, you can instantly connect to individuals or teams (channels) on your mobile device or laptop.

The Slack and Dropbox integration is great because you can actually start a Slack conversation from Dropbox itself throughout the proofing and approval process. You can also send Dropbox files to individuals or channels in Slack from Dropbox with a few clicks, which makes collaboration seamless. Finally, you can save content shared in Slack to a Dropbox folder in an instant, which is hugely helpful for teams that don’t want to keep switching back between each tool.

Zoom x Dropbox

Zoom, one of the most widely used video conferencing softwares and the MVP of quarantine, has a great integration with Dropbox that helps facilitate real-time conversation between the two apps. A few of the ways that Zoom and Dropbox work together include the ability to immediately start a Zoom meeting from a Dropbox file, automatically copying transcripts and meeting recordings from Zoom into Dropbox, and the ability to quickly present Dropbox files on-screen during a Zoom meeting.

Additionally, you can utilize Hive, Dropbox and Zoom together, as Hive’s Zoom integration allows you to start a meeting by typing “/zoom” into a chat window. From there, you can discuss Dropbox files shared in Hive during your meeting — the collaboration trifecta.

Salesforce x Dropbox

Salesforce is one of the most powerful CRMs on the market, used by a whopping 150,000 customers across the globe. It’s so widely used because it helps manage customer and client relationships with ease, and provides actionable sales insights that help teams of all sizes.

Since so many teams use Salesforce, it’s great that it connects to Dropbox. One of the biggest ways you can utilize these tools together is by easily loading, storing, and pulling files into Dropbox directly from Salesforce. Dropbox also updates your documents in real-time, so you’ll always be giving your team access to the most updated document. Users can also pull Dropbox files right out of Salesforce, which eliminates hopping between apps. This connection is especially useful for sales and marketing collaboration, as these teams are often sharing enablement documents back and forth — now that process will be totally seamless.

Gmail x Dropbox

With Zapier, an app that connects tools seamlessly, you can set up a customizable integration between Gmail and Dropbox. With this integration, you can set Zapier to do a few things, including save new attachments from Gmail to Dropbox, send you an email when new files are added to your Dropbox account, or add new Gmail emails to Dropbox as text files.

This integration is great for individuals sending many rounds of creative back and forth, perhaps between an agency and client. With this integration, all versions of the creative will be saved and stored for future reference, which eliminates the need to download all files you to your computer, re-upload, and re-share.

Evernote x Dropbox

Another great Zapier connection you can set up with Dropbox is Evernote. Evernote is a note-taking app that helps you organize and archive meeting materials. With the Zapier integration, you can backup all of your Evernote notes to Dropbox, save attachments on Evernote notes to Dropbox immediately, send Dropbox files to Evernote, and even save notes in Evernote as text files in Dropbox. Utilizing a note-taking app with Dropbox is great, because it helps centralize assets used across tools.

We’ve just skimmed the surface of some of the incredible Dropbox integrations on the market, and will be adding to this list over time. Do you have any additional recommendations that we should add? Let us know in the comments below.
