Podcasts have become increasingly popular over the past few years, and with good reason. They are great for providing information on a variety of topics, building relationships with listeners, and having meaningful conversations. But if you want to start podcasting, you will need the right equipment to ensure that your episodes sound professional and high quality. So, what type of equipment do you need to start a podcasting studio?

It is important to note that most podcasters start very simply and achieve great results. I record our Achievers Show as a podcast and YouTube channel using a $60 Yeti mic, plugged straight into my laptop, and recorded in Zoom! I then use HiveCast’s $500/month service to do all my editing and marketing.

For those who are interested in other types of equipment, this article is for you.

Types of Equipment for Podcasting

The first piece of equipment you will need is a microphone. There are many different microphones available, from USB mics that plug directly into your computer to condenser mics that require an audio interface and extra cables. The type of mic you choose will depend on your budget and what type of sound quality you’re looking for.

The next piece of equipment is an audio interface. This device connects your microphone to your computer so you can record audio directly into recording software like Audacity or GarageBand. It also provides extra options for adjusting the sound levels before recording additional outputs for connecting headphones or speakers so you can hear yourself while recording. Audio interfaces range from basic models designed for beginners to high-end models with more features and better sound quality.

Additionally, some podcasters opt to use headphones while recording their podcasts in order to prevent feedback loops between their microphone and speakers when playing back recordings. Headphones come in all shapes and sizes and range from inexpensive earbuds up to professional-grade studio monitoring headphones with noise-cancellation features.

Finally, if you plan on streaming or broadcasting your podcast live online, you may want to invest in streaming software such as OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). This software allows you to broadcast video or audio content directly from your computer without needing additional hardware or external devices. It’s easy to set up and use, but it requires some technical knowledge to get it working correctly with other services such as YouTube Live or Twitch TV.

Podcasting is becoming an increasingly popular way for people around the world to share their stories and engage with their audiences in meaningful ways. By investing in the right microphone, audio interface, headphones, and streaming software, podcasters can be sure that their podcasts will sound great no matter where they are being listened to!
