Contributors will receive a base amount of HONEY per km
Starting today, the Hivemapper Foundation will fund a temporary HONEY top-up program to ensure that all map contributors receive a base amount of HONEY tokens for their contributions. Under this program, contributors in all regions will be guaranteed a minimum of 1 HONEY per km of good quality imagery submitted for the first 1,000 km per week.
The Hivemapper Network calculates HONEY rewards using a map progress formula. There are three primary factors that determine a region’s map progress in a given time period: coverage, activity, and resilience. Standard payouts are under a smart contract. Learn more here.
In some cases, we have observed that the network has calculated HONEY reward amounts that are significantly disproportionate to a contributor’s effort in a given week. To address this issue, the Hivemapper Foundation will issue top-ups from its holdings of HONEY rather than the normal rewards pool. By funding this temporary HONEY top-up program, the Hivemapper Foundation will ensure that everyone making an effort to contribute to the map will receive minimum HONEY rewards for their contributions.
Foundation top-ups will be added to Phantom wallets on the same schedule as regular payouts. Top-ups will not be visible in the HONEY tab in the Hivemapper App for now but this is something that will be added to the app in the coming weeks.
This HONEY reward top-up program is temporary. The Hivemapper Foundation will be closely monitoring the health of the network to ensure that HONEY top-ups are appropriately awarded to contributors.
Ultimately, Hivemapper’s philosophy is for all contributors to earn a fair reward. Fairness is a combination of utility and access. Anyone, anywhere, should be able to contribute and should be rewarded for making quality contributions to the Hivemapper Network.
The mission of the Hivemapper Foundation is to build a healthy decentralized mapping network, and to that end, it is investing its resources in additional HONEY rewards that support the growth of the network. The Hivemapper Foundation will continue to address concerns about specific top-ups or specific regions and will work to ensure top-ups are resistant to fraudulent or malicious behavior.
