Ben Rector’s latest album, Magic was released on June 22, 2018. The album features 13 new songs stretching from themes of love, childhood memories, living life to the fullest, and embracing the possibilities of the future. This album has already debuted at №1 on the Billboard charts for Americana/Folk Albums, and rightfully so.

The songs on this album are all catchy and light-hearted, as can be expected from Rector. However, this album, in particular, has expanded on both the musical production element of his work and the meaningfulness in his lyrics. My favorite song on the album is called “Old Friends,” where Rector tells the stories of his childhood friends and what they have meant to him throughout his years. He even names the friends he is referring to and lets them know what they mean to him now, even if it is ten years later than when they were “just kids” together.

I also love the song “Drive,” which is a love song about enjoying the simplicity in relationships. Rector talks about picking up his loved one and going on an adventure with her, even if that adventure is just going for a drive. He doesn’t care where they end up, he just loves being with her.

“I Will Always Be Yours,” may be the catchiest song Rector has ever sang. The song tells the story of everything that he has considered himself to be over the years from his experiences. He admits that he’s been a loser and a winner, a prince and a pauper, and a star and a fool. He explains that no matter who he’s been and who he will be, the one thing he will always be is her’s. He portrays this message in a sweet way lyrically, but also in a musically pleasing way.

I would highly recommend Ben Rector’s new album, Magic. Rector makes music that is good for the soul. It is always positive, uplifting, and comes from a place that is down to earth and real. His newest album is no different, so it is definitely worth a listen.
