My, my, how could I resist reviewing Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again! After the wide success of the first Mamma Mia movie, producers Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman decided there was plenty more of this fun story to tell. They were joined with the entire original cast including Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, and so many more, to re-open the world of singing and dancing on the fictional island of Kalokairi. There have also been some excellent new additions to the cast for Here We Go Again, including Lily James and Cher.

The storyline of the movie begins where the last one ended. Seyfried’s character, Sophie, is working to reopen her mother’s hotel on the island. She is throwing a big event to kick off the opening and has invited all of our old favorite characters to the party. She is soon joined by all three of her hilarious dads, her mom’s crazy, old college friends, and a surprise guest, her grandmother!

However, Sophie is also dealing with some internal emotions in regards to the reopening of the hotel, and her relationship with her long-time boyfriend, Sky. As Sophie comes forward to different people throughout the film about these moments of struggle, we get glimpses of stories of Sophie’s mom, Donna from before Sophie was born. We get to see Donna meet each of Sophie’s three dads, how Donna came to the island of Kalokairi, what Donna’s crazy friends were like back when they were still in their singing group, and how Sophie came along. Through these flashbacks and interweaving stories, the plot of Sophie’s struggles and her mother's struggles bring the two women closer than ever in the most unexpected of ways.

I adored this movie just as much as the first one! The music is still so fun, and they did a great job of combining the old classics from the first movie with some new ones as well. Each song made perfect sense with the plot and made me want to sing and dance along with the characters. I also loved how they merged the older story of Donna, with the current story of Sophie. They are truly a dynamic mother-daughter duo.

Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again! Will make you laugh, cry, dance, and sing along as you enjoy another heartwarming story about love, friendship, and family. The film is still playing in select theaters and will be released on DVD on October 23, 2018.
