HNB Tech Part IV: Side Chain / Cross Chain

HNB blockchain system adopts dual-token and dual-chain architecture to enable and support the business transactions and operations backed by two digital assets — HNB and HGS. To shore up broad business applications and to build highly effective decentralized business autonomous organizations, it is deficient to only rely on two types of digital assets — HNB and HGS. Side-chain is developed to address this deficiency. HNB blockchain system supports side chain technology so to effectively ease up resource pressures on the main chain, improve performance and meet high concurrent computing requirement, resulting in inextensible support to business scenarios.

HNB ecosystem participants can build their own side chains that seamlessly communicate with the main chain and can issue the self-defined digital assets by mortgaging their assets in the main chain. HNB team has done intensive research and a deep dive on the adoption of blockchain side chain technologies.

By analyzing the report Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin published for bank union regarding chain interoperability. There are three categories of strategies proposed in the report which are Notary schemes, Side chains/relays, and Hash-locking

In conjunction with the HNB application scenario, HNB blockchain system adopts notary schemes, side chains/relays, and extensible 3rd party protocol, three types of cross chain interaction methods. See the following diagram:

Notary Schemes: Support cross-chain transactions between HNB dual-token digital assets. Notary mechanism is leaning toward a centralized process. The notary detects the request of the cross-chain transaction of one asset type and submits the respective request for a process to another digital asset. HNB and HGS are two digital assets managed by HNB community therefore for the cross-chain transactions by HNB/HGS notary mechanism, the role of the notary is played by HNB community, effectively managing exchange trading between two digital assets. Meanwhile, this approach can support high throughput of cross-chain transactions.

Side chains/Relays: To be used in cross-chain interactions between HGS digital asset and HNB side chain. The cross-chain interaction request between HGS chain and HNB side chain is routed to the counterpart through relay gateway in the form of events to achieve transaction integrity of cross chains between two chains. HNB blockchain system provides a relay gateway module for connecting the HGS chain and the side chain.

Extensible 3rd protocol: To be used in asset trading transactions between HNB digital asset and 3rd party blockchain assets. Future blockchain architecture is the chain network structure composed of multiple blockchains. Cross chain interaction is an inevitable trend. Therefore, HNB blockchain system reserves protocol interface for 3rd party cross chain to allow for future integration with other blockchains
