Touched by Moonlight
Glimpses of beauty and meaning in the moon’s glow, framed by stories and science.
Every morning — either before or after taking a shower and getting dressed — I check my phone for messages, and I always open my news app to see if anything significant has happened while I slept.
When I did this on Thursday morning, 12 June 2025, my eye fell on a picture of the moon and the heading of the article: Remarkable ‘strawberry moon’ visible above the Netherlands.
This was the first article I read that morning, and it made me smile. I absolutely love pictures of the moon.
We are all like the bright moon, we still have our darker side. — Khalil Gibran
It also reminded me of the photos I made several years ago. Back then, I used a mirrorless camera — a Nikon Coolpix P500 — and it had a special program to take pictures of the moon. I cannot tell you how many times I stood in our front garden when the moon was full, my camera mounted on a tripod, taking picture after picture of that beautiful ball in the sky.
