Just $HODL
A little more background into $HODL on Solana.
This will be more of an update vs the previous articles written.
January 31st, 2024 the HODL on SOL meme was born by anonymous dev(s).
Within 48 hours the meme broke volume records and hit an ATH of ~$20m market cap. A little over a week later the meme value dropped to $400k. How’s that for HODLing? Crypto am I right?
The dev left. The Community Took Over.
The value bottomed at $80k.
Three months later the community who has stayed remain committed to the Ticker, HODL (Hold On For Dear Life). Which, for those who have been living under a rock for the last decade, is an ode to the 2013 bitcointalk post by GameKyuui https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643.0 as well as Keith Gill aka The Roaring Kitty (more on him later) using it as his motto during the Gamestop short squeeze craze in 2021 — which the meme, logo and belief is based on. Lord Gill is our Savior.
HODL has lived on ever since. It’s one of the most used phrases in Crypto. That is why it deserves it’s place as a blue chip Meme — not only for the stock memes, but for the crypto memes.
Many have left, a lot have sold. The influencers who originally shilled and posted have gone — they know who they are. But the community remained committed.
Then all of a sudden something unexpected happened.
On May 12, 2024, Keith Gill came out of “hiding” for three years and started posting on X again https://twitter.com/TheRoaringKitty. Which sent the Gamestop crypto meme from a $3m market cap to over $100m mc in a couple days. It sent the Roaring Kitty (created after HODL) meme from $100k market cap to $40m mc. The market EXPLODED. The meta was reborn.
And since $HODL on Sol was created directly because of Gill, HODL saw an uptick in volume and price as well. Going from $130k market cap to $2.8m. A much need lift for the committed community members.
As of this writing, the market cap currently sits at $550k. But we have gained so many more believers.
The $HODL motto is and will remain: Whether the market surges upwards, takes a dip, or moves sideways, we pledge to stand firm and just $HODL.
THE REAL HODLERS KNOW. THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING.
