Many ICONists have raised their concerns on the inflation and the potential centralisation of the ICON Network with a possible scenario where some teams might control it, and H.O˙L A I C.O˙N team agrees with those concerns.

To avoid the inflation the best reward system should be pegged to the number of transactions made in the ICON Network, but that system, with the current number of transactions, would give very low rewards to the P-Reps, stop the expected development of tools, content and dApps by them and so becoming counterproductive.

At the moment we all should trust those ICX rewarded to the P-Reps are used to the benefit of the ICON Network and so not making any judgment for a reasonable period of time (few months). After that period all of us should reward or punish to the different P-Reps with our votes depending on the contribution they are doing to the ICON Ecosystem.

H.O˙L A I C.O˙N team expects either with the P-Reps building dApps and the BTP getting released soon, the number of transactions will be increased significantly and so there will be enough fees to pay the rewards.

When that time comes, H.O˙L A I C.O˙N team will propose a formula that adjusts the i_rep to the number of transactions so we do not have either an inflationary or a deflationary scenario (if there are more fees paid than rewards distributed, the spare ICXs paid in fees would be burnt and then we would have a deflationary situation).

So, what can be improved currently? Decentralisation. The breach between the Top P-Reps and the lower ones will be higher the longer the current reward system is stand.

Therefore and for the benefit of the ICON Ecosystem, H.O˙L A I C.O˙N team proposes the following measures:

Minimise the breach between the different P-Reps modifying the i_rep according to the following formula:

With that i_rep modified, to the date of the 10th November, this would be the comparison between the current scenario and the proposed one:

As can be seen, the higher is the percentage of votes received by the P-Reps the more they are penalised, however, those top P-Reps with large number of votes but no such high percentage are barely penalised.

This means, this i_rep modified does not penalise P-Reps with high amount of votes but to those with high percentage of votes compare with the others, and therefore, it would help to keep a decentralised network.

2. Top 1 P-Rep cannot have more votes than all Sub P-Reps together.

This measure would avoid that any P-Rep could have more votes than all Sub P-Reps together (P-Reps from position 23 to 100) in a way that any vote in excess than the sum of all the Sub P-Reps votes would go to a pot, let´s call it “P-Reps´pot” for the meantime, and the rewards achieved split daily between all the P-Reps, except the top 1 one.

On the 10th of November, the top 1 P-Rep, ICON Foundation, had 27.478.940 ICXs delegated whilst all Sub P-Reps together had 23.715.012 ICXs. With the measure proposed, this scenario could not have been possible and 3.763.928 ICXs would have been already split between the rest of the P-Reps.

Only the rewards generated by the P-Reps´pot would be split but not the ICXs delegated which would be kept in the pot. ICONists still would receive rewards generated by those ICXs but with a 10% penalisation for having delegated to a P-Rep with more votes than the total quantity of ICXs delegated to all the Sub P-Reps together.

Currently there is not even a 50% limit of the total delegations for a single P-Rep which is a severe security risk for the network as most of us are aware of. With this measure, that scenario would be prevented.

Muchos ICONists han expresado sus preocupaciones sobre la inflación y la potencial centralización de la Red de ICON en un posible escenario en el que algunos equipos pudieran controlarla, y el equipo H.O˙L A I C.O˙N está de acuerdo con esas preocupaciones.

Para evitar la inflación, el mejor sistema de recompensas debería estar vinculado al número de transacciones realizadas en la Red de ICON, pero ese sistema, con el número actual de transacciones, otorgaría recompensas muy bajas a los P-Reps, detendría el desarrollo esperado de herramientas, contenido y dApps por ellos y por lo tanto sería contraproducente.

Por el momento, todos deberíamos confiar en que los ICXs recompensados a los P-Reps se utilizan en beneficio de la Red de ICON y, por lo tanto, no emitir ningún juicio durante un período de tiempo razonable (unos pocos meses). Después de ese período, todos deberíamos premiar o castigar a los diferentes representantes con nuestros votos, dependiendo de la contribución que estén haciendo al ecosistema de ICON.

El equipo de H.O˙L A I C.O˙N espera que con el desarrollo de dApps por parte de los P-Reps y el lanzamiento del BTP (se espera este año), el número de transacciones aumentará significativamente y, por tanto, habrá suficientes comisiones para pagar las recompensas.

Cuando llegue ese momento, el equipo de HO˙LAI CO˙N propondrá una fórmula que ajuste el i_rep a la cantidad de transacciones para que no tengamos un escenario inflacionario o deflacionario (si hay más comisiones pagadas que recompensas distribuidas, los ICXs pagados de más en las comisiones se quemarían y por tanto tendríamos una situación deflacionaria).

Entonces, ¿qué se puede mejorar actualmente? La descentralización. La brecha entre los top P-Reps y los de abajo será mayor cuanto más tiempo permanezca en pie el sistema de recompensas actual.

Por lo tanto, y en beneficio del ecosistema de ICON, el equipo de H.O˙L A I C.O˙N propone las siguientes medidas:

Minimizar la diferencia entre los diferentes P-Reps modificando el i_rep conforme a la siguiente fórmula:

Con ese i_rep modificado, a la fecha del 10 de noviembre, esta sería la comparación entre el escenario actual y el propuesto:

Como se puede ver, cuanto más alto es el porcentaje de votos recibidos por los P-Reps, más son penalizados, sin embargo, aquellos top P-Reps con gran cantidad de votos pero con un porcentaje del total no tan alto, apenas son penalizados.

Esto significa que esta i_rep modificada no penaliza a los P-Reps con una gran cantidad de votos, sino a aquellos con un alto porcentaje de votos en comparación con los demás, y por lo tanto, ayudaría a mantener una red descentralizada.

2. Top 1 P-Rep no puede tener más votos que todos los Sub P-Reps juntos

Esta medida evitaría que cualquier P-Rep pudiera tener más votos que todos los Sub P-Reps juntos (P-Reps de la posición 23 a la 100) de manera que cualquier voto en exceso de la suma de todos los votos de todos los Sub P-Reps juntos iría a un bote, llamémoslo “P-Reps´pot” de momento, y las recompensas logradas se repartirían diariamente entre todos los P-Reps, excepto el top 1.

El 10 de noviembre, el top 1 P-Rep, ICON Foundation, tenía 27.478.940 ICXs delegados, mientras que todos los Sub P-Reps juntos sumaban 23.715.012 ICXs. Con la medida propuesta, este escenario no podría haber sido posible y 3.763.928 ICXs hubiesen sido repartidos entre el resto de los P-Reps.

Solo las recompensas generadas por el P-Reps´pot se reparten, no así los ICXs delegados que se mantendrían en el bote. Los ICONists recibirían las recompensas generadas por esos ICXs delgados, pero con un 10% de penalización por haber delegado a un P-Rep con más votos que la cantidad total de ICX delegados a todos los Sub P-Reps juntos.

Actualmente, ni siquiera hay un límite del 50% del total de delegaciones para un solo P-Rep, lo cual es un grave riesgo de seguridad para la red, como la mayoría de nosotros somos conscientes. Con esta medida, ese escenario se evitaría.
