Serve yourself first!

Trust me, you’ll be able to serve others better.

Welcome to the INTRODUCTION of my first-ever Medium Masterclass,

called:

“Serve Yourself First”

– Yes, it’s FREE :)

I decided to create this masterclass to spread awareness about the importance of self-care and shed light on the dangers of self-sacrifice.

Attending (or should I say, reading) this masterclass will help you take control of your emotions, possibly influencing your career, and most importantly your life.

Why Serving Yourself First Is Not Only Important But Necessary

Prioritizing self-care and self-serving before helping others is a critical concept, especially in a culture that glorifies self-sacrifice to the point of personal disservice.

There are several compelling reasons why serving yourself first is not only important but necessary:

1. Maintaining Health and Well-being

Taking care of your own physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional health is essential if you want to function effectively in all areas of life.

As well all know, neglecting personal health can lead to burnout, illness, and decreased productivity, which ultimately hinders your ability to care for others.

Prioritizing self-care ensures that you remain strong, healthy, and capable of contributing positively to the lives of those around you.

2. Sustainability of Service

When you serve from a place of personal depletion, your ability to help others is not sustainable.

You might be able to provide support in the short term, but if such efforts lead to your own burnout, both you and those you aim to help will suffer in the long term.

Serving yourself first ensures that you can continue to help others over a longer period.

3. Quality of Assistance

When you are well rested, healthy, and mentally stable, the quality of support and help you can provide increases significantly.

You’re more likely to have the patience, empathy, and energy required to be truly helpful to others.

If you’re struggling due to neglecting your own needs, your ability to offer meaningful help is compromised.

4. Modeling Healthy Boundaries

By prioritizing your own needs appropriately, you model healthy boundaries to others.

This is particularly important in relationships and professional settings, where clear boundaries help prevent misunderstandings and conflicts.

Teaching by example, you encourage others to take care of themselves as well, creating a healthier community.

5. Enhanced Self-Understanding

Taking time for yourself allows for greater self-reflection and understanding.

This self-awareness is crucial for personal growth and development.

Understanding your own needs, limits, and desires helps you make more informed decisions about how to effectively engage with and support others.

6. Psychological Resilience

Caring for yourself builds psychological resilience by allowing time for recovery and reflection.

This resilience is crucial when facing life’s challenges and when helping others face theirs.

Without it, both you and those you aim to support may falter under pressure.

7. Moral and Ethical Balance

You probably didn’t know but there’s a moral and ethical dimension to self-care as well.

Neglecting your own needs can be seen as a form of self-harm, which is morally problematic.

Ethically, taking care of yourself ensures that you do not become a burden to others, which can happen if you allow your health or personal affairs to worsen to the point that others must take care of you.

However, none of it is a good enough of a reason to judge yourself or others for it.

Takeaway

I hope that you can now see that serving yourself first isn’t about being self-centered;

it’s about maintaining a healthy, balanced, and sustainable lifestyle that allows you to be more effective in your personal and professional life, including in your efforts to help and serve others.

This approach ensures that help is a choice and a joy, not a burden that leads to further problems.

If it resonates with you, I’m all ears for your thoughts.
