‘Staycation Nation’

The UK staycation trend is bigger than ever with British holidaymakers and a trend accelerating to record levels — giving a massive boost to the wider domestic economy.

Many British tourists find it cheaper to holiday at home rather than abroad as they feel UK destinations offer better value for money, with coastal & island locations being particularly popular.

If you are one of the millions of Brits opting for a recession busting ‘staycation’, why not consider exploring this unspoilt area of the British Isles?

Here’s a lengthy list of things to do & places to visit supplied to the TripAdvisor website by many visitors who’ve enjoyed an Isle of Man holiday:

The Medieval Castle Rushen, Castletown

The Isle of Man is home to some of the best heritage attractions that Britain has to offer. These, coupled with the spectacular landscapes and stunning coastlines will guarantee a holiday perfect for children and adults alike.

It’s a great family holiday destination — kids can get back to nature sailing around the 160km of coastline spotting seals and if they are lucky sharks, basking sharks and dolphins too.

Snaefell Mountain On The Snaefell Electric Railway

Take a trip up to the highest point on the Island — Snaefell Mountain on the Snaefell Electric Railway or seek an adventure on dry land quad biking around the beautiful Manx countryside. Why not also consider joining one of the famous ghost walks around the spooky Castle Rushen in Castletown or the remains of the stunning Peel Castle?

The Island is steeped in history for those seeking a culture break, and unlike elsewhere in Britain, here you will find working Victorian railways, ancient fortresses and the world’s largest working water wheel.

For a more relaxing experience, take a leisurely drive to Cregneash Village where the National Folk Museum re-enacts the farming history of the Island. Wander round the village, listening to actors recalling stories of traditional Manx life, and take part in some of the craft workshops on offer. Before leaving the museum, be sure to take a few pictures of the spectacular scenery which overlooks the Calf of Man –some of the best views on the Island.

At around only an hour’s flight from most UK airports and slightly longer by ferry, the Isle of Man is much closer than you may think.

There are scores of quaint B&B’s, self-catering country cottages, a few working farms where folks can stay, and hotels scattered around the island.
