Taj Mahal & Yamuna- Agra

“Agra” is situated on the banks of river Yamuna in the northern states of Uttar Pradesh. Agra has a big history but it is recognized from the Mughal Empire. The city first mentioned in the epic Mahabharata as Agrevana. There were Rajput kings and Persian emperor taking place in history, but the golden history of the Agra largely recognized with Mughal Emperors. The city is extensively known for its history of the Mughal Empire, history and culture. The city has many famous monuments which speak about history and traditions.

“Taj Mahal” there is hard to find an individual personality who never heard about it. “Taj Mahal ” is a symbol of love. It is ivory-white marble mausoleum on the southern banks of Yamuna. It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in1983 and it is one of Seven Wonders of India. It was the winner if New7wonders of the World. Rabindranath Tagore, the Nobel laureate described it as “ the tear-drop on the cheek of time”. The “Taj Mahal ” was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal who died giving the birth of their 14th child, in 1631. It incorporates and design with Persian and Mughal architecture. The tomb is the core focus of the complex of the Taj Mahal. It is a large white marble structure on a square plinth and consists of a symmetrical building an Iwan, topped by a large dome and finial. The architecture and interior and external decoration on tiles gives a magnificent look. Calligraphy on the walls captured a Persian and Mughal poems.

“Agra Fort ” is the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located 2.5 km northwest from its famous sister monument Taj Mahal . The present structure is built by the Mughals, though a fort has stood there since at least 11th Centaury. Agra Fort was originally a brick fort known as Badalgarh, held by Raja Badal Singh Hindu Sirkar Rajput King. There were so many battles fought and to captured the Agra Fort for several times. After the Second Battle of Panipat Akbar realize the importance of its central situation. Akbar makes it his capital and arrived in Agra in 1558. It was in ruined condition and Akbar rebuilt it externally with red sandstones from Barauli, Rajasthan.

“Tomb of I’timād-ud-Daulah ” also called “Baby Taj”. Along with the main building and structures it also consists with numerous outbuilding and gardens. The tomb is built from 1622 to 1628. It represents a transition between monument architecture as in the first phase, red sandstones and white marbles to its second phase, based on white marble and pietra dura inlay. It is located at the right of Yamuna River. It was commissioned by Nur Jahan , wife of Jahangir for her father Mirza Ghiyaz Beg originally a Persian Amir in exile, who had been given the title of I’timād-ud-Daulah (pillar of states). Mirza Ghiyas Beg was also grandfather of Mumtaz Mahal (original name was Arjumand Bano) the wife of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The walls are made of white marble of Rajasthan and caked with semi-precious stones.

“Jama Masjid” is located near iconic Agra Fort and the area of railway station is clear from it. Jama Masjid also situated in Delhi and Jaipur among those it is the most unique attractive place in Agra. It is dedicated to Shah Jahan’ daughter Jahanara Begum. It was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1648. It is built with red sandstones and white marble from Rajasthan. It is well constructed with a fountain at centre and interior walls of are scripted in a Persian Style with admire words for Shah Jahan and Jahanara.

The city has Mehtab Bagh, Akbar’s Tomb, Tomb of Mariam-uz-Zamani, Chini Ka Rauza, Guru ka Tal,Moti Masjid,Panch Mahal Fatehpur Sikari, Ram Bagh, Musmman Burj and Jama Masjid Fatehpur Sikari attractions to visit.

While visiting in Agra taste a street food like paani puri and bhalla of at kinari bazaar, and other markets also. You must taste the famous sweet Petha in different flavours.The Mughal Empire has left indelible imprints on Agra’ cuisine called Mughalai Food with meat, dry fruits, spices,biryani etc..
