“Kolkata” is the capital of West Bengal formally called “Calcutta”. It is located on the east bank of the Hooghly River. It was founded as an East India Company’s business place. Today, it is known through culture, art galleries, music, literature and home of missionaries which was founded by Mother Teresa. Kolkata has a great tribute in the field of literature as a legendary author or poet Rabindra Nath Tagore not only in the Bengali but also in English literature.
Besides these eminent factors in “Kolkata”, there are several things which make Kolkata alive. It is known for Kalighghat Temple, which is the Hindu religious place of the city. The temple is known for idol of Kali, the Hindu deity. Dakshineshwar Temple, it is built by Rani Rashmoni in 1847. There are so many religious places to visit in the city like Belur Math, Thanthania Kalibar, Armenian Church, St. Paul Cathedral, etc. Goddess Kali is the most worshipped by the localities.
“The Indian Museum” is the largest multipurpose museum in the entire Asia-Pacific region of the world, founded by the Asiatic Society of Bengal. The museum has six departments of Art, Archaeology, Anthropology, Geology, Zoology and Economic Botany, comprising more than sixty galleries. Egyptian mummies, dinosaurs, or fossils, anything in the world can be seen in the museum. If someone is interested to know anything about our country or anything else, then must visit to the museum.
Rabindra Sarovar Lake or Dhakuria lake is the lungs of Kolkata, best place for nature lovers. Kolkata has so many famous monuments like, Howrah Bridge ,Victoria Memorial, Shahid Minar, National Library, Rabindra Sadan, etc. These are very few places but the city has a lot places.
“Eden garden” it is most well known place for cricket. The city also has some amusement park to enjoy the rides and entertainment Nicco Park, Nalban Boating Complex, Science city, etc. are some of the places.
“Kali Pooja” is most famous. The People of Bengal worship Goddess Kali in “Navratri” which is a nine day festival, wearing the traditional attire with a exceptional reverberation by the women.
“New market” is the best place for shopping, while a visit to the city must buy a Kolkata traditional saree which is called Begali Saree and have a ride with tram from the city.
The entire Bengal has its own taste, there is diversity in taste of several regions. The famous Bengali sweets are Rasgulla, Chum Chum, Sandesh, Pantua and the delicious Bengali snacks are Jhalmuri, Muri, and Moa.
Bengal people mostly prefer non-vegetarian dishes in the main course. Fishes are the most important ingredient in their recipe. They can bake it as they want, they us every portion of it as their food. Ilish (Hilsha) machh’er jhol, Chingri (prawn) macher malaikari etc.
Some vegetarian dishes are also preferred like Shaag Begun Borir Ghonto, Shukto, Alu posto are some traditional dishes.
