Keith Owen made a fortune during his lifetime as an investment banker. He was lucky enough to be able to travel the world, but always returned to Sidmouth in Devon. His fondness for the place meant that when he developed lung cancer, he wrote into his will that £2.3 million should go to the town’s civic society to be spent on flowers so the resort could be kept looking beautiful for years to come. Following his death, the society are now doing exactly that in his memory.
